Lot Details

Lot 1127
Confederate Currency Group
Fascinating selection of approximately seventy-six pieces with denominations to $50 accompanied by a letter from the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Department October 2, 1912. The letter discusses the distribution of Confederate notes that came into the possession of the Union Army about the close of the war and were turned over by the War Department to the Treasury in 1867. It goes on to say that Specimens of the notes are enclosed for your personal use. While there is no inventory, it would seem that some of these notes are from the gift as many are in Very Poor condition, while others are clipped or punched to devalue them, condition is very mixed and an inspection is highly recommended.

Estimate: $800 - $1,200
