The Latin inscription ANXIA VITA NIHIL on the book is a quotation from a classical Roman epitaph: Decipimur votis; tempore fallimur; mors deridet curas; anxia vita nihil (We are are deceived by our wishes; disappointed by time; death laughs at our sorrows; the anxious life is worth nothing).
