Queen Anne Walnut High Chest
Boston Area, Massachusetts, third quarter of the 18th century
The scrolled pediment with corkscrew finials above three small frieze drawers, the center convex drawer with trompe l'oeil gilding, over four graduated long drawers, all flanked by front and side fluted pilasters, the lower section with a long drawer over three small drawers, the center convex drawer with trompe l'oeil gilding, the triple-arched apron with turned pendants, all raised on cabriole legs ending in turned feet. Height 7 feet 3 1/2 inches, width 43 inches, depth 22 3/4 inches.

Finials are likely replacements; repairs to pediment; gilt metal bosses in center of pediment probably 19th century; gilding decoration to both arched drawers likely repaired; wide shrinkage crack to left side, now only partially filled with wood strip; dents and rubbing to mid-molding including chipped edge at bottom of right pilaster, old loss to mid-molding left side pilaster; cracking and old repairs to right front leg extending into case; a few old chips to right front foot.
